General Assembly

Good design requires equal amounts of art and skill. Every project presents its own challenges and provides an opportunity to discover innovative, elegant solutions. It is not enough for a space to look beautiful if it does not function beautifully. We design bespoke solutions that are unique to our client’s needs.

We aim to create beautiful spaces that work. And functional spaces that you will never want to leave.

Designing in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, Sarah Lawlor Zames expertly integrates the modern sensibilities of the West Coast with an East Coast attention to detail.

Prior to starting General Assembly in 2007, Sarah honed her skills at several international firms, including Skidmore Owings and Merrill, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien Architects, and Rafael Viñoly Architects. Sarah earned a Masters in Architecture from UCLA and a Bachelor’s degree from New York University. In addition to architectural work, Sarah enjoys designing in the less permanent arena of film and is a member of Local 829.

General Assembly's work has been featured both locally and nationally. Follow the links below to read more about our work.
