General Assembly is a team of designers and project managers who believe that the details of a home should come from the details of the person who inhabits it.
We begin every project with the personality, taste, profession and passions of our clients, inspiring designs that are truly singular and contain hidden details meaningful only to them. Our focus on form and material creates clean spaces with depth, reflecting a modern sensibility without losing warmth and comfort.
General Assembly works internationally, including projects in New York City, the Hamptons, Los Angeles and London. Our work has been profiled in the New York Times, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Vogue Living and The Wall Street Journal, among many others.
In addition to ground up and full renovation projects, we design custom lighting and custom furniture, and are available for interior consulting and styling services.
Sarah Zames grew up in Northwest Connecticut and has been living and designing in New York City and Los Angeles for the past two decades. After working at several international firms, including Skidmore Owings and Merrill, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien Architects, and Rafael Viñoly Architects, her attraction to the intimacy and scale of residential design led her to start General Assembly in 2010.
Since then, Sarah has looked towards each new project as a unique opportunity to further develop an understanding of how color, light, and texture can make places feel personal.
Sarah received a Masters degree in Architecture from UCLA, and a Bachelor of Arts from New York University.
Colin joined General Assembly in 2014 and serves as a senior project designer.
Before joining General Assembly, Colin studied product design and received his Masters in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since then, he continues to explore the relationships between object, person and place. This interest in the human scale can be seen through his use and understanding of material, detail and texture.
Eliana joined General Assembly in 2017 as a project manager and designer.
Eliana holds a Masters degree in Architecture from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University.
