This little 450 SF studio, located in what was once the original Barney's New York building, had great pre-war bones but was in need of some serious updating when the owner approached GA for help. We re-organized the existing impractical layout and added a sleeping alcove to the back of the space. We kept the existing kitchen footprint, but incorporated custom millwork and built in appliances in an effort to capture every bit of functional space. Using the lines of the beams and columns, we created built-ins in the nooks and crevices and we used color to highlight the varying depths of the spaces. Calculated moves in this this compact space resulted in a comfortable and efficient urban home.
