The classic lament of just about every New Yorker is the need for more space and better storage. Every inch of our real estate is precious, so we find ourselves picking sides. A guest room for the occasional friend or family to crash in?  Or a place to get some work done other than the kitchen table?  Of course, combining the two in a smart and modern way is the solution – and when General Assembly was presented with this task, we knew exactly what to do.

Modernizing the murphy bed by building it into a unique storage and work area was exactly the right answer. We started by speaking to the clients to make sure that every printer, sewing machine, paint brush and sketch pad had it’s own perfect place to be stored. We created object specific storage for some items, and then added enough different shapes of storage for projects yet to be realized.  And a built in desk and flip down table makes for an efficient work area that can be packed away when guests are in town.  Finally, we of course need to be good hosts. The queen size murphy bed is supported by Hafele Hardware that opens and closes effortlessly while still being strong enough to support a two year old jumping on it.
